State fire resources have been mobilized to assist firefighters battling two wildfires in Washington state. On July 8, 2026, Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized state firefighting resources for the Ryegrass Coulee Fire in Kittitas County near Vantage. The fire, which started July 8 at 4:51 p.m., has burned 600 acres and threatens homes and power infrastructure. Level 2 and Level 3 evacuations are in effect.
State resources include two wildland strike teams and air resources. The fire cause is under investigation. Meanwhile, on July 4, 2026, state resources were mobilized for the Chelan Hills Fire in Douglas County, which began at 12:05 a.m. and covers 400 acres. Chief Batiste authorized the mobilization at the request of Douglas County Fire District 4 Assistant Fire Chief Justin Dennis.
The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is activated to Level 2, partial activation, to coordinate state assistance. Both fires are burning in grass, brush, and timber. The Ryegrass Coulee Fire is threatening structures in Vantage, while the Chelan Hills Fire is near Orondo and Chelan Falls.
